KARAKA ROAD BOARD.
This authority lesumed business on Saturday alter the summer vacation, and all the members were present at the meeting, viz, Messrs J Batty, chairman, John Scblaepfer, J P Kidd, J Macpherson and G C t'utton together with the clerk, Mr H E Ulasson GLASSON'S CKEEK BKIDGE The cl?rk of the Franklin County Council wrote stating that the estimated cost of raising Glafson's creek bridge and the formation of its aproaches was over £2OO, and as he understood the Board bad about £IOO of loan money available for the work he aeked that such amount be paid over to the Council for the purpose of cirrying work out The chairman of the Franklin County Council, Mr J Flanajan, in answer to a letter received from Mr Bitty, stat«d that if the rate-

However, the board had no money available tor the bridge work, and he proposed that the Couicil should be notified accordingly The motion was rariied, Mr Macpherson humorously suggesting that the County Council could take fie £IOO out of the amount thst they owed the Karaka Road Board district
PAEKATA STATION KOAD Messrs Schlaepfer and Sutton were authorsied to arrange for additional metalling of Station road, Paerata
RUNCIMAN RAILWAY BRIDGE A letter was received from the Railway Department asking for ths Board's ideas as to the width of a new overhead bridge to be erceted at Runciman
Mr Sutton pointed out that 8s the bridge would be on the Great South road, and slso adjacent to the Kunciman saleyardp, the requirements of traffic should be met by a fairly wide bridge. —lt wes agreed to suggest to the Department that the width ot the bridge ehould be similar to that of the Fukekohe railway bridge A ROADING REQUEST

The clerk reported that the work of constructing the new Whargumaire bridge had been completed that day. With regard to the new Hingaia bridge, he added that the engineer had not yet released the contractor, and he (the clerk) understood that a buttress w?s to be erected to suppoit the wing of the bridge
Tha chairman mentioned that the Prime Minister, Mr Maesey, hoped to be able to attend the Puktkuhe Show on Saturday, the 26th inst, and in that caie he had promised to also officiate at tha ceremonial opening of the bridges during his visit..--Arrangements for the opening function were left to the chairman
A COMPENSATION CLAIM Notification was received that Mr E Spiers' claim for £367 5a as compensation lor land taken tor the eastern approach to Hwgaia bridge, which the Board reeisied as excessive, would come on for he2iing in the Supreme Court
