DRURY WEDDING BELLS HODDINOTT—HOKNE Great local interest was centred in the wedding that took place in the Drury Prebsyterian Church on Tuesday of last week, when the contracting parties were Mr Frederick James Hoddinott and Miss Dorothy Viti Home. The church was beautifully decorated for tha occasion by Jthe girl friends of the bride, and the building wa* well filled with friends and well-wishers of the contracting parties. The matrimonial krot was tied by the Rev J D C Madill. The bride was escorted to the altar by her grand-incle, Mr John Blake, and looked charming in a dress ot white silk embroidered organda muslin over white duchess satin, finished with white satin bows and orange blossom, with the customary wreath and veil. She carried a buuq'iet of Christmas lillies, v hite canations, white asters and asparagus Miss Effia Bremner was bridesmaid, and her dress was of white hailstone muslin, trimmed with fine white lace; hat ot white satin trimmed with black velvet bow and pirk roses, her bouquet being of pink tig?r lillies, pink carnations and asparagus Mr John Mills acted as best man Miss McNaughton played the Wedding March

The bridegroom's present to the bride wps a handsome bronch, and, to the bricfesmaiJ a gold wristlet watch

After the ceremony the newlywedded courle, who had to run the gauntlet of a crowd of rice th*owers, motored to the Drury Pall, where Mr and Mrs John Blake received the sruests. Aftfr rartakirg of the wedding breakfast, the following toasts were honoured, viz:—"The Bride and Bridegroom," proposed by Rev Madill, responded to by Mr Heddinott; "The Bridepm»id," responded to by Mr Mil's in fcnmorous mood; "The Host and Hnste's," responded to bv Mr* John Blake; "The Boys at the Front," responded to by a veteran of old times, Mr Brewer. At a meeting of the Drury Ladies' Patriotic Guild held recantly in the Drury Public Hall there was a fair attendance uf the members. Afternoon tea wss provided by Mrs McMurtrie and Miss Rugg. The undermentioned work was handed in to the works superintendent:—Socks—Mrs and Misses Hamilton, 16 pairs; Mrs McAdams, 6 pairs; Miss Hill, 3 pairs; Mrs McMurtrie and Mrs Barclay, 2 pairs each; Mesdames J Blake, Smalltied, McPherson, Fyfe, Misses Barnes, Smallfield, G Cossey, Dixon, one pair each; Balaclavas—Mrs Glasson, senr, one; cholera bel's—Miss Bernard, one; kneecaps, Mrs J Dickson, tw >. Donations—Mrs Glasson, two pairs socks; Mrs Dickson, two night caps; Miss A Dixon, one bed sock; Miss M Glasson, one face cloth The members of the Drury Presbyterian Bible Class recently gave an afternoon to Misb D V Home, when she was the recipient of many useful articles for her future home, Mrs J Dickson kindly lent her house for the function

THE WAIKATO RIVEK MINISTER OF MARINE TO INSPECT The Minister of Marine, Hon R McNab, has informed Mr Young, M.P., in answer to the latter's representations, that lie will visit Mercer in the first week of March and go into the question cl clearing the Waikato river and its tributaries between Mercer and Hantlv.
