PRESBYTERIAN GARDEN *EIE SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION Supported by a strong working committee and weather »uitable fat. the occasion, the Garden Fete, held in Mr Madill's grounds on Wcdcesaay last, was successful in every way, the groes proceeds amounting to approximately £2O. Ihe function was on a much more elaborate scale than that of previous years, and attracted a large gathering that came from all portions of the district, Mr K F bollard, M.P., being among those present. The various side shows and stalls and a tea room added to ths glamour of the proceedings, whico. were thoroughly enjoyed, la the sports programme, which was of a lengthy order, provision was made fur both young and old to participate, The ladies in particular gave a good account of themselves in the ham slicing competition, while Mr 11 Craig was very successful In the men's events. Un the whole the sports prorgamme was ol a very high crder, the handicapping as carried out by Mr W Graham, being responsible for some close finishes. Extreme creait is due to Meeßrs I Pattereon and J Pirret, joint secretaries, and to the committee for the time they gave in arranging ar>d controlling the gathering. The ladies who •ss-isted with the luncheon and afternoon tea and those in the refreshment stall also worked assiduously and helped to a great extent towards the succe s of the proceedings Those who assisted the secrctarits were as follows, viz:— Messrs Dynes Fulton, judge, W Graham, handicapper and starter, J Hendersun, gatekeeper, W R Cule, W A and C Smeed, J H Craig, J Fulton, H and J Madill, C M Osbourne, W and J Glasgow, U B tree, Northmore, Mungall, J Mctarland, Blakely, A Smith, Laing, J Crukkbhank, F Henderson, W K and W J Cole, Woodbiidge, 1* Lewis and J Ewing. It is understood that a rival site at Pokeno is also under consideration by the directors
