MARAMARUA.

A public farewell, in the form of a dance, was held in the Public Hall on Tuesjiay last in honour of Private Henry Downie, who is back from Trentham on his final leave. Having only been in camp a tew days he was unexpectedly granted his liaal leave, and the above function was thought to be the most feasible means to give him an opportunity to bid farewell to his friends, as he departs with the Tenth Reinforcements. The hall was comfurtably filled, and an elaborate supper was provided by the ladies. Mrs Clarke and Mrs McGinnes supplied excellent pianoforte music, and Mr G Mabey ably filled the position of M.C. A very pleasant evening was concluded with the singing of the Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem
