DRURY SURVEYOR'S SUDDEN DEATH An Auckland surveyo', Mr Joseph Jordan, met his death a Drury on Monday under tragic circumstances. The deceased was working with another surveyor, Mr A B Morrow, and it was whilst talking to him that he suddenly dropped dead. Assistance was at once sought and the body was removed to the Drury Betel. The t'eceased was a resident of Auckland, and was seventy-three years ot age An inquest was held yesterday, before Mr C. Roadley. Coroner. Evidence was giveo by two of deceased's tons to the effect that tteir father had not been in ill-health, and upon leaving home on Monday morning te had not shown any signs of illness A post-mortem examination was held by the local medical practitioner who afterwards certified that the deceased had died of heart failure, brought on by an over-strain and extremely trying weather The cororer stated that it was apparent that the deceased had undertaken more than he could carry out. Had he ceased working he would have lived for some time. It was a custom in New Zealand apparently for old people to te unrestrained as far as their work was concerned, aid in that casa it bad resulted in an untimely death A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned

STATUTORY HALF-HOLIDAY WEDNESDAY FIXED At the i ivitation of the Town Board Messrs H T Acton, P A Rowe, L Stevenson, W Cole and A J Prescott, representing the employers, met tte Board at a special meeting held last night and discussed tha question of the statutory weekly half-holiday for the ensuirg year. The employees were not represented, but the matter was debated on for some corsiderahje time, and the present arrangements for Wednesday holiday seemed to give general satisfaction it was unanimously decided that Wednesday should continue to be the day upon which the business premises would doss dunrg the ensuing year
After specdirg a pleasant holiday extending over several weeks at ona of Auckland's 93aside le-orts, Mr and Mrs W H Northmore and family returned home this week Extensive alterations to Messrs Buckland and Sons saleyards are in prrgress, several carpenters being employed in extending the yards. The same is a sign of the development tte district is making commercially The firends of Miss Amy BrewBter will be sorry to hear that she is about to relinquish her duties at Messrs Green and Colabrcok's establishment as she has arracged to leave for another district. Miss Brewster was amongst the willing helpers at the recent Patriotic Carnivals, and the services she rendered on that occasion were much appreciated by the public
