Monthly Meeting. The übuel monthly meeting of the above authoiity was hell on Tuesday lißt. Present: Messrs Dynes Fultou, chairman, H Craig, H B Free, W Strahan, J I'irret, W Glasgow, Captain Kyder and the clerk, Mr A H Tapper. PKOI'OSED TKAtFIC BKIDUE

The District Engineer of the Kailway Department wrote stating that be understood tnat the Board was contemplating a scheme tor road improvement on the West side <f the railway, r.ear the public level crossing at Tuakau, and as he had been instructed to prepare an estimate of the cost of a bridge and the appproacbes at that place, he wut-12 be pleased to bo furnished with a copy of the Board's proposals, tha width of biidge and roadwey, and ths maximum grade of the approaches ii the event cl a biidge being construct:d. The clerk stated that he had advised the District Engineer to make application to the Board's engineer for the information he required. The chairman explained that tie

letter was sant to him direct. He did not know the eource from which the engineer had obtainej his information, but the Board did not contemplate carrying out any works on Ihe town side tf th> railway. The engineer, he said, might have heard of the loan proposal. Ths wnole matter, however, restei with the ratepayers, and they might turn

the ban proposal down. NOXIOUS WEEDS Mr H Foland, Faeroa, acknowledged the Board's "reminder" re

the cleaiiog of noxious weeds from the front of his section on Harrisvilie road, and stated that he would comply with the request. Captain Ryder remarked that Air Poland had not acted in accordance

with his declared intention, but it was agreed he should be allowed a little time to have tha work proceeded with. OUTSTANDING KATE The clerk read a list of the names of defaulters in connection with overdue ratee, the total amounting

to £62 14s 6d. —lt was unanimously resolveJ to serve final notices that all rates must be paid before the end of February, failing which the Board would take legal action. ABSENTEE OWNERS

Mr Free suggested that an estimate or the value of absentee owner's sections and the cost cf adverting them, with a view of their disposal by the Board, should be obtained.

The chairman considered that an effort should first be made to ascertain the owners' whereabouts, and whether they were deceased or otherwise. It wos obvious to him, however, that action should be taken as somebody occupied them. The clerk was instructed to communicate with the Franklin County

Council in regard to the whereabouts of owners. LOOKINU AHEAD The chairman raentiutied the necessity of making provision for the spawling of a fairly large quantity of metal from the quarry as the

lease, he Bait), would expire in twelve months from next March.—lt was resolved that alternative tenderß should be called tor the epawling of 2000 acd 1000 yards of metal in either one or two contracts. HARRISVILLE RATES

Capt Ryder reported that a ratepayer, resident in Harrisville had said that all the rates collected from that district should be spent therein—Mr Pirritt: That would not be hard to accomplish. (Laughter). LICENSES

Ice Works Committee were deputed to inspect and report cu a boarding house and hall, for which application had been made for licers.-s. REPORTS Ihe chairman reported that Mr Foley had satisfactorily attended to

the pipes of a drain leading from a septic tank in the hotel yard, and that arrangements had been completed whereby the surfaceman would attend to the trimming and lighting ul tbe street lamps. There were other matters, he said, which the Works Committee had intended to inspect and report on, but consequent on harvesting operations the members had so far been unable to spare tbe time to investigate. ing cattle is becoming quite prevalent in the district, a member suggested that a raid should be made, and the animals impounded. DOG LICENSES It was pointed out during a discussion on the dog rate collection

question, which was left to the clerk to attend to, that a perron harbouring a dog was liable lor the co:-t ol its license.
