See also page 1. Several new members have joined the Rowing Club and are regularly practising on the liver. The United Timber Company have completed arrangemenst to cut a
bush in tbe vicinity of Mercer. Tbe railway gang of twenty men employement on the main grade easement works between Pokeno and Mercer have completed tbe foundation work on that section.
This will allow for the laying of the new line when tbe earth has settled down. Half of tbe men will leave tor Papatoetoe next week, while the balance remain on to crush stone. The alterations have extended over a period of two years, during wbicb time some of
tbe men bave camped alongside the job and others at Pokeno. Another member cf the staff employed at tbe Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company's Butter Factory, Mr K Soppet, bas enlisted, having
been accepted for the Thirteenth Reinforcements. Mr Roberts, the manager of the factory, predicts a
shortage of labour for next season.
