Papakura Water Supply.

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—Your par (29 12 'ls) re water Bupply tor fapakura is misleading. Practically every ratepayer knows the value of a water supply, and are in favour ot such. The Town Board, on the other hand, are divided on the matter. With a scattered district such a3 ours, a water scheme requires a great deal of careful thought before the ratepayers are committed to any expenditure in that direction, -Personally, I am inclined to think that a temporary supply to suffice fo-, say, 10 years is best for Papakura. The service mains coulJ be such, and laid in su h a manner, to connect up with a twelve-inch main when thi time came for us to "launch out." A temporary aupply can be obtained two miles trom the station by pumping. The permanent supply woull require to be brought in from the Wairoa Falls.

Tlnre is quit 2 a lot to t'o before even a temporary supoly can be discussed. The present Board is, 1 believe, moving ia the right direction ""to make a water Bcheme leasible. In regard to a lighting scheme, ga3 will probably be med here as there are several good coal seams quite handy to the town, 'l'he Wairoa Falls will decrease in volume considerably as the bosh on tbe ranges is destroyed, and all tbe water will be required tor household purposes, including sanitary draining.—l am, etc., TAIHOA.
