BOMBAY.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING The ordinary meeting of the Bombay District School Committee was held on Saturday last. Present: Messrs W K Corntnwaite, chairman, W R Watson, G Common, K Donovan and A French. Inspector Mcllraith'p, L.U., report of his recent inspection ot the School was read and was considered highly satisfactory, reflecting as it did to Ihe credit of the headmaster, Mr R J Corbett, and his assistant, Mies J C Wootten. He reported as follows:—Section 11. et seq: This school makes au all round good display. The arithmetic, composition, writing, agriculture and geography are particularly tine. Drawing has much improved. Reading and recitation, though not on the same hisb level as other subjects, are of distinct promise. The Echool garden*, useful and ornamental, are much appreciated by local residents, and could be made of great value to the farming community. The school grounds are being steadily made more suitable for recreation purposes. A good tone pievails, and there is every evidence of thorough, enthusiastic work in both departments.
At the recent examination for proficiency cert licates held by Inspector Mcllraith, L.D , at Bom* bay there were four pupils from the Bombay school, 2 from Paparata and 7 from Etst Pukekohe. The four from Bombay obtained certificates of proficiency, also tiie two from Paparata; and five from East Pukekohe also passed, and the other two obtained certificates of competency. The local school gardens were recently judged, the girls' plots, flowers, by Mrs W H P Evans and the boys' plots, vegetables, by Mr Cornthwaite, the result being— Girls: Mildred Corbett 1, Beatrice Fletcher and Grace Wright equal for 2, Kathleen Head 4. Boys: Norman French 1, Albert Common 2, Leo Donovan 3, Raymond Wootten 4. The average attendance for the past year was stated to be only one short ot the school being entiled to another assistant teacher.
