Buy's races: over 10 years, A Know lea 1, K Lindner 2; 8 to 10 years, F Knowles 1, A Laing 2; 6to 8 years, A Mayall 1, J Knowles; 4 to 6 years, H McGuire 1, A Graham 2; consolation,, E Drumm 1, K Drumm 2. The flaxmills are working at fall pressure now to get as much green leaf through before the holidays as any standing over gets dried up and is harder to treat. Messrs Frcst Bros., are working two shifts in the scutching shed and are turning out over two tons per day of dressed fibre ready for market. The Maoris are assembling at Mercer for the big meeting to be held at Christmas. Mrs E C Frost and Miss F H Frost left by the Kiverina on Wednesday last tor a tour through New South Wales They will visit the northern part of the State. Sand bunks are beignning to be very much in eviden:e in the river now that the floods have subsided. Some very big ones are showing above water alongside the groynes near ths Elbow, and even in the channel the launches touch the bottom at low water. So far there has been very little scouring effect, and it seems as if a suction dredge will be needed to clear a channel.
