death of an old settlek The death occurred, at his residence, at Alfristin, on Saturday, of Mr James Muir, in his 75th year. Mr Muir was a very old resident ot the district and was a veteran of the. Maori War. He fought at Gate Pa, where he wbb wounded in the neck and put out of action. Previous to this he was in several engagements in the The deceased leaves a widow and grownup family of sons and daughters to mourn their loss. He acted at one time as schoolmaster in the Papakura Valley, but later followed farming pursuits. The funeral took place at the Christ Church cemetery, Alrfiston, on Monday, and was largely attended.
