The sale by order of the Official Assignee of the bankruptcy stock of a painter and decorator is to be held by Messrs. J. T. Stembridge and Co. in Pukekohe on Saturday next. The death is reported of Private John (''Jock") Edgar who was well known in Pukekohe, where at the time of his departure to join one of the Scotch regiments (the Highlanders), of which he was a reservist, he was employed on the grade easement works. He was apparently killed in action at Loos, France, on the 25th September. The deceased was extremely popular in Pukekohe, where he had made many friends, and he was a noted exponent of the bagpipe 3 and step dancing.

Messrs. J. T. Stembridge and Co report : At our usual sale on Friday the 10th the attendance was below the average and bidding was dull. No pigs were yarded and poultry cane forward in average numbers but the quality wa9 poor. Vegetables were equal to requirements. Some of the prices realised were poultry, hens, lid to 1 3; potatoes, 8 - cwt.; cabbage, small,.]/- doz., better, -; green peas 1/2 peck; plums ">/6 case ; rhubaib 6/- doz. bundles; turnips 2/- doz. bundles; caulillours 21 to 4d each; hams Is per pound. Furniture and sundries realised usual prices. Xmas Cards, Presentation Books and Annuals in great variety at The Bookery, Pukekohe.— advt.
