No lesj than eleven out of the twenty-one Rubgy footballers that represented the Tuakau Rugby Club in its representative games last year have left, or are about to leave, for the Front. Included in the laat-mentioned batch are Messrs M. Lipanovich, A. and J. Seragthy and Williams and others. The captain is already in the ranks, while the vice-captain, Mr Lipanovich, enters camp at the end of the month.

PAPAKURA. It ia worthy of note tbat the first four placed horses in the St. Andrew's Handicap at Takapuna were all bred at Glenora Park, as were three othur winners on the first day's programme. The B Squadron ot the 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles, under the command of Lieutenant fl. Walters, will go into camp on the old racecourse tc-day. Ihe men will be under canvas for seven clear days. The secretary of the Carnival Committee has been kept busy during this last few days receiving the muck court fines, but there are still a brge number unpaid. It is probable that the full list will be posted in the "Times" as soon as it is prepared. An unusual sight in this part of the country is three reayers and binders working at the one time in a paddock. Thi* can be witnessed this week on Mr H. Lloyd's farm where a hundred acre crop of oats is being cut. It is suggested that a deputation of businessmen should wait upon ths General Manager of Railways, Mr K H. Hiley, when next he is In Auckland, with reference to ttu stopping ot the Ratorua expresses at Papakura. It is considered tbat the town, in view of its size, is legitimately entitled to tbis consideration.

So far little interest is being manifested in the election of a member of the Town Board, and both candidates will have to exert themselves to get th?ir supporters to put* their hands to paper on Wednesday next. The result is open, and it would' not be easy to pick the successful one of the two candidates.

Tha new lessee of the Pupakura Hotel, Mr IS. L. Bygrave, is expected to arrive in Papakura early this week. Mr Bygrave was deservedly popular in the Waikato district where he has been tor very many years.

When opening the collection boxes in connection with the rest afternoon on Mr P Holt's property last week, a £1 note «aa overlooked but afterwards found. This brings tha amount of the donations from the aftenion up to £4 14s 3d.
