TUAKAU
THE LATE MR BEKNARD McGAHAN.
The mortal remains of the late Mr Bernard McGaban were interred in the Tuaksu Cemetery last Friday afternoon, the Rev. Father O'Hara officiating at the graveside, fhe cortege left the house at 2 p.m., followed by repesentativea of the Tuakau Town Board, , the Mercer Town Board, the Post and Telegraph and Railway Departments, the business people and friends driving, riding and on foot. En route to the cemeteiy the body was taken into the Roman Catholic Church, where a sarvice was held. Deceased was 30 years of age. He was extremely popular and respected by those with whom be came in contact. He took an active interest in local body affairs, and was a contestant for Town Board honours at the last election. By,his demise the Tuakau Rod and Gun Club suffers the loss of a most energetic member. He was elected an executive officer of the .Club on its formation in IUI2 and held the poistion up to the last, On one occasion, in open competition, he secured the coveted Foley Cup. Until several years past he served as an altar boy at the Catholic Church, and followed that up by being a regular attendant at the services. The Catholic Federation also loses an officer, the late Mr McGahan having acted as secretary. In the social life of the district he made himself particularly agreeable and popular, and invariably occupied the position of secretary and M.C. at concerts and dances. The Tuakau Town Board holds its ordinary monthly meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, the j meeting having been postponed from Tuesday last owing to Carnival arrangements then in progress.
