Mr George Baker left by the Wellington express on Monday of last week en route to tbe Trentham Camp, where he joins the southern section of the Ninth Reinforcements.
The Carnival to- be held on Wednesday next promises to be a huge success, enquiries coming in from all quarters. The committee, with Mr K. Djnes Fulton at its bead, are working enthusiastically and with good results. The bUMness premises will be closed during the day, a procession on an elaborate scale will take place representative ot all sections oft the community, the Queen of the South (Mrs K. F. Bollard) and Miss Orr (the local Queen) will attend in company with their Maida of Honour. Side shows will be an element of great attraction, and the sports programme includes events for both old and you ng. The procession is timed to leave Dominion Road at 11.30 a.m. instead of 12.30 p.m. as previously arranged. Sappers Will Pirret and Jack Johnson, of the Bth Keinforcemente, spent their final leave at Tuakan last week. When the time came for their departure on Saturday last, by the Rotorua express, a large gathering met on the station and gave the "boys" three rollicking cheers.
