PAPAKURA.

[A branch office of tbe "Pukekohe Times" has been opened in Papakura at the land and estate agency building of Mr Godwyn U. Smith under tbe residential management of Mr A. G. Yardley. Advta. and printing orders will be received at tbe office and notices ot fortbeoming events in the Papakuta, Drury, Clevedon, Rama Rama, Bombay and surrounding districts should be sent to Mr Yardley].

Among the returned soldiers who arrived by the Tofua last week was Trooper Percy Bullea, of Papakura. He was one df the first and few of Papakura's sons to enlist, and before he contracted illness had seen much fighting in the trenches where he had had many hairbreadth escapes. Trooper Bullen arrived at Papakura on Friday and was welcomed at the station by relatives and by Mr A. Willi*, chairman of the Town Board. The trip home appears to have done the soldier considerable good, bat be still snows signs of his illness.

An accident, ■. the extent of which is not exactly known, befell a well-known resident of Papakura at the Karaka last week, in company with another he undertook to inspect tbe new Karaka bridge, being deeply interested in ferroconcrete work. It was on the journey home that he wanted to get out and walk, and the trap became too small to bold him, with •

the . usual consequences. The amateur medico resident at tbe Papakura Hotel has recommended more than embrocation for bad brusies.

On Saturday evening a fine selection of music was played by the Papakura Band. A collection was taken up for the Carnival Fund and a good sum derived thereby. During the programme Messrs A. Willis, chairman of the Town Board, and Mr E. S. Cole publicly welcomed Trooper Bullen, who had returned home incapacitated tbe previous day.'
