Modes of the Moment.

One of the most popular ma tan 1for washing frocks this summer i,- the new striped gingham, either in ck-ii-cately pale stripe or the very decided blazer design, and nothing could be more suitable for wear at the seaside or in the country. The sketch above shows a novel version of this smart vogue. Although the lines of the dre.ss are extremely simple, and might lie attempted by the home dressmakers! cith success, the effect is very chic, especially if carried out in the colours of the original, which was in cherry and wl ite stripes, with a broad black wiisfc eit and small black hat. The very idea of summer is sugif.-t----ed in the delightfully cool looking dress sketched next. It is so wry simple to make and to launder. The bodice is cut in one piece with a large sailor collar. The hip yoke skirt has a scalloped edge bound with pale blue- to/ match the belt, while the frock itself is of white gingham. The hat is a very suitable one for a dress of this type, although a more soft one of Leghorn

The New Striped Gingham.

very simply trimmed could be worn for the afternoon. The one illustrated is a wide sailor in blue and white picot straw.

The wide skirts are seen in all the new washing dresses, and have quite taken the place of the straight ones. With these now skirts, frilly white petticoats are again an essential item in the wardrobe. They may be as wide and frilly as desired. Some of the new models are lovely creations in themselves.

Although we hesitate to don coats to cover a fresh and pretty summer washing frock, in the chill evenings at the sea one fools the need of a- cosywrap. For this purpose one may have one of the extremely smart short coats of white woolly serge, or in a pahshade to match the costume. The smartet the dress the smarter the coat must be to match it. One very chiccoat was of white fleecy serge, with a large floppy collar of pale blue face cloth, fastened with large bone buttons.
