THE QUEEN CARNIVAL.
Patumahoe. A fairly well attended meeting of settlers of the Mauku district, convened by Mr J Henry, was held in tbe ball on Saturday evening to make arrangements to aaiiat witb the Queen Carnival in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr J. Henry presided, 'and Mr E. C. Cuff was elected to act as secretary.
The chairman delivered a lengthy and interesting address. Be explained the object of the meeting and said it was everbyody'a 'duty to five to tbe fund in some form or another. A strong committee was fqrmed to carry out the work in connection with tbe Carnival, and it is tbeir intention to hold weekly entertainments ft) the hall. Several young ladies were appointed to make a house to house canvass. Messrs J. Henry and Melville Criipe [offered to drive the ladies round the district in their motor cars, and the hall trustees offered the hall free of charge tor the entertainments. The commute will hold another meeting at an early date to make final arrangements. A vote ot thanks to the.chairman closed tbe meeting.
