RAILWAY MATTERS,

THE SUBURBAN SERVICE. In connection with proposed new time-table for the suburban service and the increase in the number of train?, Mr E. S. Pfßler, of Manurewa. recently interviewed the Traffic Manager in Auckland. The latter stated that while nuihng bad yet been decided upon, it was probable that tr.e following extra trains would be ru'\ viz., one to leive Auckland at roon on Saturdays, one daily at atout s.l'J |j.m., and another at 10 p.m. It was explained to Mr feeler (hat the present Papat'doc service could not be extended to Papakura until tbe duplication of the line was completed. It was pointed tut to the Manager tint there was at present no train [leaving Papakura between the hours of 1 p.m. Jand 5 p.m., but it was stated that this could not be remedied until the first time-table in 1916 is under consideration.

Mr Pegler fas lor many yearß been a leading advocate for increased facilities in (he suburban service, and he has done murh for Papatoetoe in this respect. He now considers it time that Manurewa and Papakura should combine in c nnccti-n vith several matters, but especially those concerning the railways. As en illustration show ing tbe necessity of this. Mr Pegler was recently informed by the railway officials tbat [they had many callers in connection with tbe suburban service, but each perron hal a suggested time-tatle to suit himself. A tboroughly repretentative body comprising the leading men in both districts should concern themselves in the matter atd then approach the Department, said Mr Pegler.

The Manurewa Tennis Club will open its treason on Saturday, October 30th, when several outside cluba are likely to be present. The courts are to be re-tarred and put info good playing order before the date mentioned, A number of new members have joined the Club in readiness for the season, which promises to be a most successful one. Hr Chris Lupton will hold the secretarial reins for the club, and promires to do well fur it. A met ting of the Progressive League is to be held next week, when the question of lighting Manurewa will receive consideration. Ihe matter of the extension of the Papatoetoe gas service to Manurewa is being considered by the Auckland Gas Company, and it is possible that something definite in the shape of a proposal may be placed before the meeting by Mr Pegler, who has been devotirg Home time to the matter on behalt of the Manurewa residents.
