Pukekohe's Queen: Miss
V. Webster.
A meeting of the Fukekohe General Committee was held' on Monday afternoon to formulate arrangements in connection with the Que<:n Carnival, iha Mayor, Mr H. U. K. Mason, presided over a large and representative gathering. THE LOCAL QUEEN.
The Mayor reported that t&e Auckland organiser had visited the different places in tba Pukekohe district, and had found feeling favourable to the institution of local Queen candidates as an auxiliary scheme t3 the candidature of the Queen of the South, and it was therefore for that meeting to select a Queen for Pukekohe.
After discussion as to the best mode of selection it was decided that nominations should be called for, and that voticg, by ballot ehauld follow. Tbe names of eight ladies were submitted and tbe majority of votes were given tor Miss Viola Webster, whose colours, it was BUbsequectly arranged, suould be rjyal plus and gold.
APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES.
Tbe following sub-committeea were appointed, viz :
Canvassing Committee—Messrs R. F. Webster, J. Coady. J. Patterson, C. Clarke, J. Kennelly, C. K. Lawiia and the Rev. S. Nixon. Musical and Entertainment— Messrs J. Ruulston, J. Coady, C. Roadley and Brunnette, Mesdamea Motiun and Nixon, and tbe Misses Townson, Dell and Roulston (Belmont). Stock Committee—Messrs I. Motion, F. Graham, T. W. Woods (Patumahoa), J. Wright (Puoi), F. ShUherd (Puni), John Scblaepfer (Karaka) and Jag. Wylie. Refreshment Committee— Mesdamea Mills, I. Motion, McAithur, Clark, Lucas, Townson, Grigor, Taylor, Mcßae, Stuart, Dell, Roadley, Baxttr, Webb, Bockett, F. BroAn, Lysnar and Matthews, and the Missis Kennelly, Usher, Graham and Uaxter.
Sports Committee—Messrs G. Armstrong, DJI, Kollinson, Ktunelly. Webb, S. Marshall, F. Graham and Hopkins. Paddy's Market CommitteeMessrs F. Perkins, J. T. Stembridge, F. Hubbard, Matthews, Mrs Ben Andrew, • and Miss Kennel!;. Advertising Committee—Messrs J. P. Aeher, C. Kuadley, J. Patteison, Pilkington A. B. Barter J. G. Ku9b.ll and W. L. Jones. Executive and Finance Committee—lbe chairman of the different Committees. • PROPOSED TEA ROOMS. Mr Perkins submitted the offer of a gilt for*' one month ot tea, cotfee, scones, sugar, etc., for supplying a tea room if a marquee for the purpose were erected on any site in King street between Queen and Hall streets, and Mr C. K. Lawne offered to lend rooms at his new building free ot rental as tea rooms. Both offers were referred to the Refreshment Committee. Pa pa ku pa. At a meeting of the Carnival General Committee the following sub.committees were elected:— Executive—Chairman and vicechairman, secretary, treasurer and also chairman of each subcommittee.
Finance Committee—The executive.
Canvassing Committee—Messrs E. S. Cole, chairman, H. Walter;, E D. McLennan, W. Richardson, J. Mears, D. Stewart, C. Waterman, J. Walker, H. Lloyd. Linßtrom and Woodhouse.
Enter tamoient Committee—Mrs H. Walters, Misses Murray,. Shipherd and U. Cave, and Messrs Seaton, Waugh, McCormick and Crawford.
Spurts Committee—Messrs Cole, McCormick, Crichtoo, H. Smith and J. Mills.
Each Committee has power to add to members. Mr W. Crawford was elected treasurer.
Tuakau.
A meeting uf the Patriotic Committee, presided over by Mr Dynes Fulton, was held on Monday night last to select a Carnival Queen. Candidates were nominated from Tuakau, Harrisville, Whangarata, Pokeno, Maungatawhiri, Mercer, Pukekawa and Unewhew. A ballot will be taken and the successful lady will be declared the Carnival Queen for the district, It was decided to hold a monster Patriotic Carnival, picnic and sports meeting combined on Wednesday, November 3rd.
Sub-committees as follows were elected to deal with the various branches ot the Carnival: —
A'.hletic Sports—Messrs A. H, Tapper, J. Pirret, W. Barnaby, J. Madill and J, Fulton. Children's events and amusements—Messrs P, Rowe, P. Lewis and W. G, Graham. Side shows—Messrs U. B. Free, J. Turbott, K. Patterson, W. H. Nortbmore, J. Cruickshank, F. Wcolley, A. Smith, C. Smeed, f. Clark and G. Revell and. Leaman. Gatekeepers— Messrs W. Gubb, and James Henderson. Refreshments, flower and other stalls-Mesdames Deeble, Hunter, Leaman, Revel], Cruickshank, Turbo: t, Hyde, Lewis, Fulton, W. Smeed, senr., W. Smeed, junr., Nortbmore, Free, Finch, Butterworth and Strahar, Misses Hyde, Deeble, Hunter, Bridge, Bell, Grant and Hamilton. Messrs W. J, Deeble and A. Turner were appointed ti asisst tie ladies' committee. Mr A. U. Tapper was appointed general secretary of the Carnival.
