HEROIC ENGLISH NURSES.

GIRL CARRIES A WOUNDED SOLDIER.

The correspondent of the " Algemeen Handekblad" (Amsterdam), in a letter "from the English Front," tells the following story of an English nurse : After the terrible life at the front I was now far from the trenches, and was walking along a sunken road when, rounding a curve, I suddenly saw a bent figure slowly moving forward. It had a strange appearance. Could it be a human being? I hurried up, and as I came nearer I I could see what the strange form was. At first 1 stood speechless. I saw a girl of ont more than 23 years of age carrying on her shoulder a young Englisft infantryman. The young man had been shot through the shoulder, and after a preliminary dressing of the wound ue had been told, to go to the nearest held hospital, but taking a wrong turning, He lost hie way, and' wandered on along lanes and by-paths until the great lose of blood he had suffered and the fatigue of his long walk were too much for him, and he collapsed and fainted.

In this state the young woman—she was an English nurse —accidentally found him. As it was at least half an hour's walk to the nearest field hospital, she decided to carry him there. The brave and resolute girl readily accepted my assistance. We utilised my overcoat as a stretcher, and thus we carried our wounded man together to the hospital. After receiving a satisfactory report from the doctor, the young girl proceeded once more on her walk.
