"OVER THE STICKS."
Pukekohe's Municipal
Stakes.
(By Our Kacing Expert.)
Under the award of the Commission that allocated the additional permits authorised for cross-couitry meetings Pukekohe is to have an extra rsce meeting on Wednesday next, but only one contest fills the bill and with but three competitors engaged the a hole of the stakes will go to the one first past the post.
Some private and steady training has been indulged in by each of the contestants, and their stable connections warrant them fit in wind and limb. Two ot them essayed the course at the autumn meeting, and alifrugb both made good showing they were than amongst Ihe "al;o ran" division. On this occpsion, however, one or other seem? likJy to catch the judge's eye. "Irrepressible," by Cecil RhodesFree Lance, as usual hits out merrilj. He is, howevar, a somewhat awkward customer fur Ms jockey to handle. If caught in the right mood his talents would earn him distinction, but he baß developed the dangerous habits of "pecking" at the hurdles and his inconsistency in that respect m?y spoil bis chances. "Contractor," by Festival— Running Stream, is the novice of the trio. His credentials are sound and he has plenty of vigour, but running green his prospects are not publicly regarded as very tosy. "Knight of the Hammer," by Ratepayers' Association—Rostrum, carries a lot of bloom and at exercise on the course he bowls along very jauntily. The critics are "somewhat divided as to his capabilities, but his numerous supporters are very sanguine of his success.
