PUKEKOHE PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the above Committee was held on Wednesday afternoon last, the members present being the Mayor (Mr H. G. H. Maiou) in the cbair, Meesrs K. F. Webster, F. Perkins, J. Patterson, A. B. Barter and the Town Clerk (Mr J. F. Deane). The Mayor reported that as the result of the discussion at the last meeting a letter was sent to the Auckland Provincial Relief Association asking thj reasons why a provincial fund had been preferred to a national fu:d, as it Beemed to the Puktkohe Committee that different provincial funds would bring abcut the the disadvantage of unequal treatient. Information was also sought as to the resson why Pukekohe had received no notices of the meetinsg of the Auckland Aesociatijn like other local bodies. The reply received stated that the Executive favoured a Provincial Fund as they considered that the four provincial districts of the Dominijn were sufficiently large to carry out their own aoiministration, and, further, that the Executive considered that a conference of the ciifferent provincial associations would secure uniformity in working and equal treatment, As to representation on the Association, the Pukekohe Committee bad, by an oversight, been overlooked but the Executive would be pleased to receive the names ot one or more delegates to serve on the Associa tion.—Mr R. F. Webster stated that he bad interviewed the Auckland secretary, and the information given him was to the same effect as contained in the letter. He was also told that Pukekohe w•• t e only distiict standing out, but ne doubted if such was the case. However, ha (Mr Webster) ttought the only course open to them was to join the Provincial Association.—The Mayor that Pukekohe should join the Auckland Provincial Relief Association, and should forward all contributions to that organisation. He thought that Pukekohe had been somewhat ignored, but all the same they could cot hold aloof as it was impossible for them to act independently.—Mr Barter seconded. —The motion was carried. It was decided to contribute the sum of iilO to the French Ked Cross Society and also to assist the same cause ii a special French Red Cross Day was promoted for raising funds.

It was further resolved to help in every possible way the forthcoming Auckland Carnival.
