LITERATURE FOR THE WOUNDED.

The Rev. A. Mac Donald's Appeal*

At the mesting ot the Ptkekobe Patriotic Ccmmittee held on Wedn sday last a l.tter, forwarded by its recipient, wss read from CbaDlin Angus Mac Donald, of the Base Hospital at Cairo, formerly Presbyterian minister-in-cbarge of Pokeno, in which he said:—"The General insisted un having me at the Base to look after the buys as th.y came back wounded and nuied, so here 1 am with four Hospitals full to the doors, most of our own dear brave New Zealand boys, to look after and to find little comforts for them. 1 never felt so honoured in my lite as I do at being left to look after them. They come back to us maimed and Bh&t and torn and crippied; sometimes wrapp.d in a blanket only. Then I begin to clothe and feed and find tobacco, pipes and cigarttUs, etc. Anything in the way of literature you can lay hands on, make it up in bundled and send on to me, for I am often at my wits end for reading material and for tha means to get it. What a blessing for the mothers of New Zealand that taey cannot see their boys in the condition in which they come back to u°, but I think they should be told of ths many needß of the wounded, so that they could send us help. But, oh! they ate just splendid; net a murmur, not a groan, clenched teeth and a smile. Heroes. . . . heroes to the

core, evety one of them, my dear boys."

It was resolved to a&k the Editor of the "Pukekohe Times" to furward to Chaplin Mac Donald for the benefit of the wounded a shaie of the "Times" Tobacco Fund, and to invite residents of the district to contribute old or new books, magazines, etc., the same to bs left at the Borough Council Office for despatch to Chaplin Mac Donald to provide reading matter for the wounded.
