PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
Point-to-Point Meeting* The Waiuku branch of the Pakuranga Hunt Club held a successful Point-to-point meeting in Mr Peter Dromgool'a paddock, on tha WaiuWi-Pukekohe road, yesterday. Showers rt rain fill intermittently duiing the day, but did not dampen the ardour of an enthusiastic gathering of spectators that witnessed the events from a hill situated in the middle of the long distance course.
The meeting was held lor the purpose of assisting the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, which will, as a result, benefit to the extent of £ll ss. Messrs Eber Bariiball and R. T. Keid judges, Mr C. J. Hosking starter, and Mr Charles Selby, clerk of scales, conducted the events to the satisfaction cf all concerned. Dr Grant, and Messrs Ben Myers, Tom Gill, and J. K. Hodgson, of Auckland, and Mr Ivan Motion, of Pukekohe, were amongst the visitors present.
The Point-tu-Point Steeplechase, of two miles, was an exciting raje, with a well-contested finish, which saw Mr Mick Butler, owner and rider, win by a nose on Hawea. The results of the events were as follows:
Wire Jump, open, for trophies presented by Mesrss E. Morrison and G. IJ. Selby—E. Henry 1, C. J. Hosking 2. Poiut-tO'Point Steeplechase, about two miks. For qualified hunters that have not won / a race amounting to £25 during the last two years; lightweight, 11 stone. For trophies presented by Messrs Ben Myers and A. SJby.—Mr 0. Gill's Tangihaere (owner and rider), 1; Mr E. May's Pipi (E. May), 2. Six starters. A good start. Monoplane went to the front in the early part of the race, and was leading by two lengths, but failed to negotiate the first hurdle. Father Skinner's Nationalist, ridden by Heck Wynyard, took up the running and kept it till half the distance had been covered, when it fell at a hurdle and lost its rider. Tangihaerr, wliieh had been running second, left the ruck and won camfoitbly by ten lengths, with Pipi second.
Ladies' Bracelet, about four furlongs. For trophies presented by the Club and Mr Ernest Henry.— Mrs R. T. Reid's Eccentric (P. lownsend), 1; Mrs Ireland's Munster (B. Miller) 2. This race provided a gcod finish, a head separating the placed horses. Pace Rice, walk, trot and gallop: open. About one and a-half miles. For trophi s presented by the Club and Mr K. T. Kcid. Ben Myers's Buwlcr (B. Myers), 1; C. J. Hosking's 2. Point-to-Punt ijUcplechfse, heavyweight, 12't 71b. About one and a-hall mil s. For qualified hunters that have net woo a prize amounting JLo £25 during ttie last two years. Fur trophies presented by Metsrs J.' Williamson and Eber Barriball. Mick Butl r's Hawea (Owner), 1; 0. Gill's Taugihaere (owner) 2. Seven starters. An exciting race. All the horses got away together and Monoplane, with K. Buchanan up, took the had and maintained it, going strong, until about half the distance bad been covared, when he crashed into a hurdle. Hawea took the running, with Tangibaere a few lengths behind until near the last hurdle, wben t'se second horse moved uo and the most exciting race and finish of the day was witnessed, Hawea winning by inches. High Jump, open. For trophies presented by Messrs E. Morrison and G. H. Sebly. —Miss E. bill's Tikitere (Ur Grant), 1; W. Kidson's Melba (Buchanan), 2.
