PUKEKOHE BOWLING CLUB
Annual Meeting.
Ibc annual meeting of the Fukekobe Bowling Club folbwed tte annual dinner held in the Fukekote Hotel 0,1 Thureday last. Soma 25 members were present and Mr A. B. Barter presided. ANNUAL KEPOItT. The secretary, Mr H. H. O'Lcughltn, submitted the annual report, which stated that considerable lniprovemnents of a permanent nature bad been carried out, part of which were voluntarily Bubscribed for. The msmbersbip showed a slight increase, there being 50 playing members and 3 honorary members, ats against 47 playing and one tonorary member for the previous season. It was with regret that owing to their departure fiom the district the club had lost three very energetic members in Messrs Eames, Graham and Spiers. The dry weather which prevailed during the eeaion allowed of mors than the usual amount of play, which was reflected in the general improved standard of play. Play commenced early in October, the annual "At Home'' taking place on the 13th November, 1914. The latter ceremony proved a success, the visitors expressing themselves well pleased with their outing. During the season visits had been paid to and from Waiuko, Mt. Eden, Papatoetoe, Poosonby and Grey Lynn, besides which the Club was represented at Kotorua, Cambridge, l'akapuna and Oaehunga touramennts. At each place their representatives gave a good account of themselves, especially at Cambridge where Messrs Bockett, Pearce, Hewson and Wright (skip) were only beaten in the iinal. Competitions during the year had been keenly contested, and many exciting games were played. The thanks tf the Club were due to the following donors of trophies:—Mr Clarke, gold medal; Messrs Brown, Smith and Graham and D.C.L. a pair of bowls each. The balance-sheet showed the permanent improvements and assets to be £77 lis, against which £29 13s 6d was subscribed by the members and £5 by the Ladies' Croquet Club, which left a debit balance in the improvement account ot £42 17s 6d. The general account was in credit £l2 lis lid, which was £3 9s less than the sum brought forward from the previous year. The committee hid hoped to wips off all the balance of the improvement account, and would have done so had it not been for 23 Homes, exclusive of those which appeared in the list ot unpaid subscriptions, appearing in the list of members and not coming forward. That would have brought in a revenua of £4B 6s, and would not only have been sufficient to wipe off the improvement accout, but also would have increased the balance of the general account t> £lB 2s sd. The balance disclosed a loss of £9 2s 6d for refreshments, afternoon tea and the annual dinner, which proves that the present system of making a levy on members did not achieve the desired end. In conclusion the committee wishes that the coming season will be a prosperous and enjoyable one, and look foiward with confidence that the incoming committee will with economy be able to wipe off the existing debt. In moving the adoption of the balance sheet the chairman congratulated the Club on its sound position. Keen enthusiasm as usual, he said, prevailed last year. The improvements done were considerable. Nothing had been lost in repairing the ladies green, towards which the ladies contributed. If the ladies ever decided to discontinue playing croquet the green would come in for use as a winter bowling green. An asset which was not mentioned in the report was the soil which was in hand for top-dressing for the following year. He thanked members for their assistance during the season past, particularly Mr Keith and Messrs Baker Bros., in connection with assistance towards imroving the greens. The report was adopted.
