KARAKA ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of the above authority was held on Saturday last, Mr J. Batty presiding. Other members present were: J. Schlaeper, .1. P. Kidc*, J. MacPherson, G. C. Sutton and the olerk, Mr H. GlasEon. ROADS TO BE CLOSED. It was decided that action should be taken in accordance with clause 131 of the Public Works Act to cloie three roads in the district viz., one between sections 42 and 51, another between sections 13 and 14, and the third rurning through section 14. SCORIA UNAVAILABLE. The Railway Department wrote stating that they required the scoria on Btation road, Paeratp, for their own use, and would not accordingly be able to dispose of it to the Board. METAL. It was decided, on the motion of the chairman, to caJ tenders for spawling 500 yards of metal in the Board's quarry, and if necessary to increase the amount. A PROPOSED BRIDGE. i.'io chairman reported that the District Enginetr if the Railway Department estimated the cost ot an overhead bridge for Crawford's level croßßing, near the Paerata Railway station at £IOOO. The chairman considered the Board was N not in a position to take action without tome assistance, pod it wa* decided, on the motion of Mr Sutton, that the chairman should confer with the Franklin County Council, with a view tn obtaining necessay quota. NEW HIDING WANTED. The clerk submitted a petition signed by 80 ratepayer?, praying for the Karaka district to be made into a separate riding of the County, with a representative from the district, and he explained that there were still 20 signatures to be obtained.—The clerk was instructed to hurry on with the canvassing and tn forward the petition to the chairman of the Franklin County Council as early as possible. A NEW BKIDGE. . It was agreed to hold a small function at tte opening of the Hingaia bridge, which will be ready for traffic in a week's time, on the understanding that the ratepayers | will not be called on to provide towards the cost. The chairman was requested to ark i lie Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prim Minister, to be present and to fintlly settle on a date for thfl ceremony.
