DAFFODIL SHOW.

Possibly because the proceeds were being donated to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, Trie Daffodil Show held in the Public Hall on Friday last was fie most successful of any exhibition yet promoted by the Clevcdo.i Daffodil Society. The entries were far in excess of previous records, and from a financial aspect the show was highly satisfactory, the sum handed over to the Fund being greatly in excess of the amount that was anticipated. Careful attention had be?n paid to the display in the hill, where d3ffodi!s (f rre varieties were artistically arranged on a table in the centre a'<d 01 the sides. Five tab) s of choice cut spring flower bloom", and an exhibit by the children ot bultjniiol.s added fuither charm tj an exquisite collection of Nature's choicest handiwork. The stage end of the hall was set a-ide for the entri s in the dec'rated table competition which consisted of four superiorly arranged exhibits.

The doors were opened at 2 p.m., and from that until closing time large numbers passed throu.h the hall, god business being reported by the stall holders. A committee of ladies dispensed afternoon tea h a rojm adjiinnig the main hall.

A vatied ccll.ction of donations was received for the jumble stall, viz, fowls, sheep, a dog, a canary an I otter things tio numerous to m?ntin. and while for the guessirg competition a handsome iced cake was pns nted by Mrs R. W. Hall acd two hams by Mrs D. Shaw.

Mrs B. A. C'ispe, the litnorary secretary, and the strong working committee cf hdies that assisted are to be congratulated on the succe-rs of the enterprise. Mr Chas. Hesketh, cf Auckland, was again entrusted with the judging, and as usual gave siliafactim to all concerned.

The following ladies pr.sided at the sails, viz.:—Jumble stall, Mrs Lane and tne Misses b. Murray and A. Bryan; sweet stall, the Misses K, and U. Brown, M. Waters, F. Wallis and H. Mcf'herson; plant stall, Mesdames A. Waters, W. Hyde, and G. Atkins; afternoon taa room, Mcsdames F. H. Gibbs, W. Djw. Collett, Bennett, Gee, and tha Misses Wallace and Sutherland. Great assistance was "given (hose in charge by the school children, who were present in large numbers, the school being closed for the aft'.rcoon.

Fur exhibition only was a collection of Pilgrim Liafodils by Mr Bull, of Newmarket. ii the string flower collection section Mrs H. Brown, with a ver> tastefully arranged exhibit, again proved herself mvincicle. Mrs W. J. D. Sharp?, Hana Rama, was awarded second prize fur a choice variety. A special prize was awarded to Mrs S. Atkins' exhibit I

Two school children, Misssb L. Munro and F. McKenzie, both under twelve years of age, secured first honours in the decorated tabla competition with an exhibit of simple flowers, consisting of cyclamen, friesiaa, anemone?, violets, and allium, and Miss M. Brown was awarded second place for a display of daffodils, which were rather too lavishly arranged.

Two sisters, the Misses G. and D. Dennis, respectively, fecured first and scond prizes for their exhibits in the competition for buttonhcl s made up by school children.

The daffodils "for exhibition only" w>re a choice collection, some of the most noticeable being Mr Bull's collection of "Pisrims," and Mr Hesketh's Wairoa.

A show of twelve blooms by Mr of Cambridge, was greatly admired. During the aftemoun and evening the proceedings were enlivened with musical items Tarranged by Mrs W. Stephens and Mrs Dannie. Reports of two good sheep sales are to baud, viz., Mesres A. Bell's and D. Eraser's. The la'ter is subdividing his property into three farms with a view cf disposing ot them.

Definite arrangements have been made through tba generosity of the Mew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., who bold tbe lease of the property, for the Waikati Cooperative Cheese Co. to erect their cheese factory on tus Clevedon Steam Navigation Go'f. property at ihe wharf. This will avoid cartage, > as the cheese will go direct from the factory to the boats. Tenders for the erection of the factory will close on September 3rd, and cheesemaking operations are expected to commence on November Ist.

A three day's supply of cream totaling 140 gallons left the Waikato Dairy Company's receiving depot on Friday last. Mr J. Ward, who for a number of years was managing the Ness Valley creamery is in charge of the depot.
