See also page 1. Captain Ralph Wyman, of the 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles, whose name appears amongst the recent list ot wounded at Gallipoli, was for many years a resident of Pokeno. He Berved in the Boer war and on his rtturn from "South Arfica he engaged in firming in the Pokeno district, subsrquenlty removing to Otorhanga. He was an enthusiastic miiltary adherent in the old volunteer da>s and was captain of the Pukekohe Mounted Rifle?. The Fanners' Union Mounted Rifld Club formed sorre months back is making rapid progress uodtr the able command of Captain J. Dean", president of the Club, and Lieutenants G. Lippiatt, T. Gorcon and A. McGuinnrss, vice-pr.sidents. The membership is 81, distributed over the Maramarua, Maungatawhiri Valley and Pokeno district", in which centres ih.'y arc instructed on Saturday afternoons. The (lub is now registered, and in a fortnight's time MBjor Lu-.k will arrive in the district to swear the members in. STOCK SALE AT POKENO. lliere was a full yarding in nil suctions at Mesas Buckland and Sons usuil monthly sele held in the Pokeno yards on Monday last. There was a strong demand for spnngerß, which sold from £5 10b to £lO, according to sge aid quality. Empty cows brouhgt from £4 10b to £7 sb; ecod steer calves up to £2 15s, licit" rs £1 10s to £2 2s, and weedy calves from 6s upwards.
