PAPAKURA.

A meeting of citizens was held alter the parade of the National Reserve on Thursday last to consider the question of tha moat suitable kind of s?nd-orf to he given the "boys'* who aie leaving for the Front. The meeting was a representative one, and was pre ided over by the Kev. W. C. Wood, the result was that a committee was formed, with power to add to their number, to carry out the send-off functions for the future. The form of entertainment is to consist of a complimentary dinner to the "boys" on the eve of their departure for camp. Upon their rtturn home, prior to tteir embarkation for the Fiont, a social evenirg is to be ttmined them, and it is hoped that Ihe laOieß of Papakura will render tvery assiUance in making thu social a succes. Messrs Wood, Cole, Mclatosh, Francis and Gillespie were elected an executive to arrange for the future complimentary dinners. An executive having a proportion ot lady representative is also to be formed to nrrangfc fir the socials. The Rev. W. C. Wood left for Auckland en Tuesday lapt and is spending a few weekß' holiday at Chelt.Mibaui Beaeb. Regular weekly \i its ate being paid to the district l<y mmbers of the legal profession, one atriving from Auckland ar.d the other from Pukekohc. During his visit to the district last week, Mr Harold Wilson was entertained by several friends to a BUtper at Mrs Smith's Globe Hotel, the gathering bei;ig presided over by the Rov. W. G. Wood Numerous ppee:hts were made and songs rendered. The proceedings passed off in a pleasant manner. On the following evening Mr Wilson waj entertained by some Papakura friends in the Wavtrley Hotel, Auckland, and was presented with a gold watch. Since bis entry into camp Mr Wilton has been promoted from a private in the Veterinary Corps to a FarrierSergeunt.

Mr George Black, of this dis trict, has been accepted for the Army Service Corps of the Bth Reinforcements. A movement is on foot amongst the ladies of the district to form a physical cutlurc class, and with this object in view a meeting will be held at an early date. The new Braeß Band is making good progress under the conductorship ot Mr R. Hunter, and should be heard in public performances in the near future. The membership is 25, and it is hoped to increase it to 30 by the next meeting.
