The Railway Department announce that tickets at excursion rates will be issued to Auckland on Saturday next in connection with the Pakuranga Hunt race meeting at Elierslie. Outstanding ires in connection witb yesterday's Muck Court, and also any donations from absentees, will be received at the office of this paper or by Mr B. H. Andrew.
The amount collected in Pukekohe and district for the Belgian Kelief Fund is as follows:—Amount previously acknowledged, £241 2s lOd; C. Shipperd, eighth contribution, £5; total to date, £246 2s lOd. The many friends of SergeantMajor Hatt will be interested to learn tbat he has b;en promoted to the rank of Licuteuant. He is serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli and in a letter to hand yesterday he reports "All's well." The donations in Pukekohc and district in connection with the Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers' Fund to date arc as follows: — Previously acknowledged, £357 16s; J. Wakelir, £1 sj; Miss A. Smith, ss; Britisher, 2s (id; Mr McPhee, l«j; total, £359 'Js 6d.
Mr Fred Brown, Pukekohe's stationmaster, commenced bis annual holiday leave yesterday, and during his absence his duties are being carried out by Mr N. K. Robson, Chief Goods Clerk, Mr G. L. Mercer, of the Believing Staff, being temporarily in charge of the Goods Department. Mr Fred Marshall, who some two months since left Pukekohe tQ join one ot the Reinforcement Drafts of the Expeditionary Forces, is at present in Pukekohe en furlough, being now a Sergeant in the Earl of Liverpool's Own Regiment. Sergeant Maißhall appeared in uniform last night at the A7ock Court and was called upon to answer an indictment that he left the district to join the Expeditionary Force, The Judge's decision tbat be waß discharged "with honour" waß received with enthusiastic applause. Mr J. N. Baxter, eon of Mr and Mrß J. M. Baxter, is at present visiting bis parents in Pukekohe. He has been accepted for the Fields Artillery Section and awaits orders to enter one of the Reinforcement Camps. Up to the time of bis departure from Hamilton he was a member of tbe G Battery, and was professionally employed in tbe office of Mr P. H. Watt?, solicitor. Another of Mr Baxter's sons is already servrng on the Gallipoli Peninsula, having recently received a commission aB a Lieutenant. Winter Games—an endless variety at the Bookery.—Advt.
