The monthly meeting of ihc local branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the library on July 24th, Mr I Hamilton presidiig. 'leu members were present. Two new members, Messrs A. C. Bush and J. Tooman, were elected. The lollowing resolutions were passed: "That the secretary write for further particulars re scheme for the formation if superphosphate And sulphuric acid manufacture brought forward by the Auckland Executive." "Ihat tli2 Auckland Executive be written to pointing uut that the two grades of K. Lamb and Sons' Sjdney bonedust bear no distinctive mark on the sacks, and requesting that they will take the matter up and communicate with the firm in the interest of the farmers." "Ihat the attention of the Franklin County Council be called to the bad state of Cormie's Hill, Drury road." " That the Executive of the Farmers' Union, Auckland, be asked to call upon their secretary, Mr Schmitt, to resign his position, owing to his nationality, during the duration of the war now raged by Germany against Groat Britain and her Allies."
Plentiful raios have been the order of the day lately, and last Thursday's downpour was the heavi&Bt that bas been experienced here fur some time ,paet. There are several miniature lakes and duck ppndß about, especially on low-lying parts of the roads, and it is to be huped that the County Council will take steps to have these sheets of water removed. The heavy rains have done considerable damage to yarious potato patches, and in tome places tbe tubers have been washed clean away.
