PAPAKURA.
A big muster of the National Reserve was held on Sunday last, on the Railway Reserve, when about 35 members put in an appearance. Mr W. Driver, general secretary of the New Zealand Executive, was in attendance, and io a brief speech complimented both officers and men on their smart appearance and soldiery bearing. A good hour's drilling was put in under their capable instructor, Captain Waters. A m acting of the Executive of the Patriotic League was held on Friday evening cf last week, when Mr Alf. Willis was in the chair. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were received ar.d adopted. Letters of acknowledgment were received from the Acting-Consul for Belgium for amounts forwarded to tte Belgian Relief Fund. The question of amalgamation with the Provincial Hospital Ship and Wounded Soldiers' Fund, after discussion, was deferred fot consideration to a future meeting. The secretary, Mr Murray, was instructed in the meantime to secure a draft of the rules of the latter association for perusal. Utner business transacted was of a routine nature.
A mseti g of the Town Bjard was hell on Monday last, at 7.30 p.m. Ttierj were present: Messrs A. Willis, i i tie cLair, Stewart, Crawford, Bates, Campbell, D. W. Jones, and tte clerk, Mr H. W. Geissler. Discussion on regulations re vrhiclea' license?, hiwkers,
billiard rooms, pjbhc halls, explosives, benzin", tte, followed, and good woik towards the formation of tte new by-laws wss carried out.
The Star tt t'apakura, No. 82 1.0.0. F., met on Monday night in the Orange Hall for the installation of officers a d other business. D.D.G.M. tiro. Cooper, D.M. Bro Hooper, D.D.M. Bro. Ward and D.C. Bro. Phillips were present to contiuct the ceremony, and there wts an attendance of aljout twenty-five members. The -grand officers conferred the various degrees on eight candidates, and then install.d the following officers for the ensuing ter.r:—Bro. W. Rowe, NG.; Bro. W.Richardson, V.G.; Bro. Andrew Richardson, secretary (this he has helJ with the exception of one term sine 3 the formation of the Lodge); and Bro Percy Johnson, tfeasurer; other offices were also filled. Each of the visiting officers addressed the members, and congratulated them on the prospetity of the Lodge, In the course of the evening, D.W. Bro, Hooper presented Bro. Rowe with a eymtolic tie pin, in appreciation of tne work he bad done in increasing the membership roll. It was a gracetul act gracefully performed, and was well appreciated by the Lodge, acd should be an incentive to others. A coff .e supp?r ended a most enjoybale evening. Mr Albeit Dryland, who was bandmaster at Papakura for a considerable time, died on Tuesday morning at Elleislie, where he had gone to reside. His health had been very indifferent for a long time. He wks a general favourite with all who knew bim, and will be generally missed, particularly by hn old comrade?. The funeral took place at Papakura on Wednesday last.
A committee has been formed to try and reform the band in Papakura. This movement thoroughly desreves to be encouraged.
