YESTERDAY'S HEAVY RAIN.
Floods General.
As a result of yesterday's heavy downpour of rain many of the low-lying areas in and around Pukekohe are under water.
Mr Stanley Sinclaire supplies the information that the rainfall tor Pukckohe, as recorded at "Rosemont" favtn, during the !56 hourß ended \) a.m this (Friday) morning, was 3.45 inches, of which fully two inches fell during the 24 hours immediattly preceding y a.m. Uur Waiuku representative reports that the rainfall was the heaviest experienced for eight years past, but notwithstanding that the amount of water lying on the various roads is comparatively email.
In the Aka Aka district surface water is lying on some of the lower portions. The drains are doing good work and the water is getting slowly away. The Western drain ia running fully up to the top of its banks, but the Eastern drains are not quite so high.
In the Otaua districts there seems to be rather more water, and in some cases whole paddocks arc covered. The creeks are all full, but if no more rain falls the damage will be very trifling.
