(See also page 2). WAIIIKU TOWN BOARD. Monthly Meeting. In attendance at the monthly meeting of the above authotity, held on Monday, evening last, were Messrs R. T. Keidj chairman, J. Walterß, J. Urioble, A. U. Bar'riball and the clerk, Mr W. J. King. Mr Lockie Gannon, consulting engin er to the Board, was alto present. RATES. The matter ut fixing the rate being before the Board the cleric submitted I a detailed account of the estimate of proposed expenditure and ol revenue for the year ending 31st March, 1916, viz.Expenditure: Roads, maintenance and repairs, £285; footpaths, £25; lighting, £25; wages, £IOO, administration, £SU; public pound, £SO: legal expenses, £25, engineer, £ls; miscellaneous, £10; printing by-laws, etc., £6O; i total, £6OO. The revenua was set forth: Kates at a Id 111 the £, £471 i 17s; hotel license, £25; various I licenses, £2O; rents, £lO 10s; ; pound fees, £5; subsidy on rates as 1 above, reduced to* |d in toe £ bans, i £350, at 5s in the £, £B7 10s; i total, £619 17s. Notice of motion for next meeting was ' given to strike a general rate of Id in the £ an l a hospital rate of one-sixth of a pennv. ROAD REPAID. A request tigned by the following ratepayers living on View road, viz., Messrs E. W. Browne, W. K. Browne, C. T. Barriball, E. T. Bamball, T. Lowe, H. Rrssiter, H. B. Armitagp, E. J. Green, Jos. Barriball, A. E. Tisdall, E. D. Greer, E. Barriball and J. D. Chalmers, was forwarded to the Board, asking the Boatd to consider the matter of taking steps to improve View road, more especially the rise leadirg from Kitchener road, which they claimed was almost impassahh. The chairman said he had viewed the roai and considered it was in a bad state.
The chairman was empowered to make arrangements with the Board's surfaceman to repair the mad and the cleik was instructed to notify Mr Browne to remove his fence back a chain from the fence on the oppisite Bide of the road. license: renewed. A certificate for the renewal for Mr R. T. Reid's license for the Kentish Hotel was received form Mr F.JV. Frazer, S.M., chairman of the Licensing Committee for the district of Franklin. BY-LAWS ADOPTED.
Instructions re the adoption of bylaws were received from Mr A. Hanna, the Board's solicitor, who stated that the Board would be required to hold a special meeting to pass a special order adopting ib-i by-laws. Action was taken in accordance with the terms of the letter, ard it was further decided to confirm the by-laws on August 10th, the clerk io the meantime t> arrange for the necessary advertising forthwith. HARBOUR BOARD MATTERS. The sceretary of the Auckland Harbour Board communicated with the Board on the matter of the transfer to the Board of the Waiuku wharf and reclamation, stating that the Marine Depaitment had agreed to the proposal. He asked that a statement ba forwarded him showing the rents that had been paid for the •current year to the Town Board, for the sheda on the reclamation and the amount still owing The clerk was requested to furnish a statement as requested.
RATES. On the clerk's suggestion it was decided to approach the AuditorGeneral with a view of obtaining authority to p:ol the County special rates ever the town District, and to authorise payment out of the general fund so as to pUce things on a more equitable basis. BY-LAW MOTION RESCINDED, in accordance with notice of motion given at the previous meeting of the Board, the chairman proposed that the resolution adopting the Te Awamutu by-laws be rescinded. —Agreed to. PROGRESS PAYMENT. The clerk was authorised to make application to the Public Works Department for a progress payment on the job nearing completion at the old post office culvert. ENGINEER TO INSPECT. With a view of having the works laid down to the permanent levels Mr Gannon was instructed to inspect pipe] that were blocked in Kent street and Colombo rosd, between Walter's and Campbell's properties, a blocked culvert in Martin street, and several crossings and culverts, and to report to the Board. METAL ORDER. On the motion of Hi Gribble, the chairman was empowered to order metal for repairs to the Waipipi road from Mr Parry. The clerk was instructed to measure in heaps Mr Parry's repair meti! at Victoria A«eoue.
KEFOKTS. The clerk reported a debit balance to date of £3B Bs. Mr Gribble repo ted that the trees overshadowing and obstructing the lamp and interfering with the footpath in Queen strett, opposite the Hall, had been cut down. The clerk reported that he had been asked as to wheth't the Waiuku bridge would require atrentghenicg for a five ton boiler, which was coming for the Dairy Association's new factory, to pass over it. Being uncjer the impression that it was to be hauled by horse traction he gave instructions (or planks to be laid on the bridge, but as it was to be hauled by a" engine, it would be necessary to place "toms" underneath the stringers.—The cleik was instructed to notify the clerK of works of the factory accordingly.
ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £29 Us were passed for payment.
