Waikato Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd.

I TO THE EDITOR. 1 bir, matters and by way of being a dairy farmer, I have Riven a good deal of attention to the report of the above Company's meeting, published with your issue of the 11th inst. The speech of the managing director shows great progress made by t u e company, of which he is justly proud. But while everytbi n g is progressing so nicely 1 cannot understand how he arms at the st dement that th 3 advarce payments for cream d - livertd direct to the factory daily trom Septemb3r to March were as stated Probably he mesne butterfat nstsad of cream, but he immediately includes and quotes prices for April, May, June, July and August. Four of these months are usially accepted as off months, when the quantities of butter-fat are extremal/ low and prices high. As I write J have before ni3 t*e actual nnnt'oly statement! of butter-fat supplied to this company and prices paid for same to the suppliers as under, a d alongside the price quoted in said speech. Note.—For four months there was no supply:— Pries Price DiU'erMontli. paid. quoted. ence. d. d. d.

Showing a difference against the supplier of Jd for each of six months and id for each of two monthe. In each monthly account deduction is made for cartage so presumably delivery was direct into factory. Usually sucn figuies are quoted for comparison and bo such might be accepted by those who do not reckon up for themselveß. 1 recommend every supplier to examine his own accounts, take into consideration whether he has to pay carriage or any other charge, divide the total sum received for butterfat by the number of pounds he has supplied, then he will find the exact average price per lb paid him by the company he supplies. Of course, if he home separates he must deduct the cost of the sam*; and it he wishes to make a comparison let him du the same with the account of any other company. There is said tu be great virtue in an "if," and when one comes to daiiy companies' accounts thera is great virtue in what "average" means. If to the above quoted figutes, as actually paid, id ol' premium for daily delivery be added still there is a difference of id for each of six months, against the supplier. It seema plain that the statement "accordingly the average payments for buttter-fat delivered di.-ect to the factory would approximate la 2id per lb" cannot be obtained from the figures as quoted. 1 am, etc., BUITEK-FAT.
