OTAUA DRAINAGE BOARD.

Monthly Meeting.

The postponed monthly meeting of trie Otaua Drainage Board was held in the Otaua l'own Hall.on Friday afternoon last. Present: Mesgrs W. L. West, chairman, H. 0. Mellsop, R. Hull, W. J. 'Wright and tha clerk, Mr W. J. King. UNCOMLPETED DRAIN.

The Board considered that they were justified in deducting 10s from the account in connection with Holmes' drain, because the work on the Western drain had not been completed. WURK APPRECIATED.

Mr Hull reported that Mr Denize had effectively carried cut the work of clearing logß, as previously arranged with the Board. Thirteen logs had been removed with a launch. In the discussion on the matter, the chairman and other members remarked that Mr Denize had well earned the payment ait reed upon for the work, namely, £3 KATfcJ-:. On the motion of the chairman seconded bv Mr Mellsop, it was decided that the following rates should be struck, according to agreement arrived at the lait meetirg, viz.: First-class land, Win the £; second-class, fd; Jd. SUB-DIVISION QUESTION. l i r; par J to the q icstion of subdivisiu-', which had been discussed at tte list meeting, there waß some doubt as to the legal position of the . Board. Messrs Mason and Mason, ! the Board's solicitors, wrote stating | that the position was sjnnwhat | involved, and that a full and definite advice would be given at an early date. The clerk was instructed to obtain further information from the solicitors, and also to write to the Minister for Internal Aflairs, in reference to the question, in orde» that the Board might be able to submit the proposal to the ratepayers. FINANCIAL. Several small accounts were paßscd for payment. the financial statement showed a debit balance of £l7O, which would be counter-balanced by the rate to lo struck.
