Mr H. E. Vincent.

Although he only resided iD Waiuku for a peiicd of approximately tix months, Mr H. E. Vincent, who die! in the Auckland Hosiata 1 on Saturday last, at the age of 57, and whose home was in Ngaruawabia, made a large number of friends in tbia (ii»trict. Coming to Waiuku as clerk cf woika and general supervisor on behalf of tde New Zealand Dairy Association, in conncctiut with the new butter factory being erected, he at once interested himself in his usual zealous and self sacrificing manner in spheres congenial to his knowledge, experience and taaie, and where he could work for the spiritual and mental welfare of the community. In particular, ne gave a great deal of bis time to Methodißt Church activities, of which denomination he was for many years a lay preacher; also, he took an active interest in the Mutual Improvement Society, of wbicb body he was a valued member. As a preacber, hie obviously deep Eincerity and conviction made a marked impression on his congregations, and his sermons were invariably enriched by apt quotations from the great masters of literature, and by analogies in nature which bis idealistic mind wove into harmonious illustrations, and his fluent language clotbed in beautiful verbal garb. As to his professional work as an architect and builder, his own residence in Ngaruawabia, and many fine buildings in and other places in the South Island, bear splendid testimony, fur they express in a material form, the high intelligence, love of the beautiful, and executive ability that the late Mr Vincent was gifted with. l?'or, his sorrowing widow and family general sympathy is felt.
