(By Tally-Ho.) On Tuesday, Bth inst., tne Waiuku branch ot the Pakuranga Hunt Club held their opening meet at Waitangi four cross roads. At 12.30 quite a number of followers had assemble', and had gathered in a picturesque little spot by Mr W. James' bush, where the huntsmen and visiting friei.da partook of refreshment kindly provided by the Master, Mr R. T. Reid. The Huntsman was not long in making a Btait, it being decided to throw off on Mr Dovell's farm, where he promised a find would be effected within five minutes. We were not disappointed, for no sooner had the hounds been Bet to woik than a tine hare was seen making away across country to Mr Lawton's. It was not everyone present who could follow, as a formidable barb-wire fence bad to b? negotiated. This run lasted a considerable time, there being too much cover for a long straight run. However, th-re was soim fine jumping witnessed, but it was eventually decided to try Iresh country, as the hare seemed t) have all the advantage. We then worked Mr C. T. Bmiball's farm, known as "Great Gate," but wiiliout success; also the properties of Messrs E. and J. Rudge. it was now decided to try Mr Eber Barriball's "WoDtilands" farm, and we had not long been working here till some one was heard tj exclaim: " Ihere she goes !", and puFS was seen making away across clesn levtl country—a treat in store! The hounds were now in lull cry, and everyone keen to be close to the huntsman. Only those who were well mounted could expect to enjoy this iur, as suit' fences had to be dealt with. The hare crußßed through Mr CorbtU Farm' farm iiitJ Mr C. J. Hosking's, where saplings had been placed on the ftnees. Nice jumping was witnessed here as the jumps were a convenient height, 'ihe run continue:! through Mr Eber Baniball's pi ct, known as Barlket's, and for a line it se.mecl ps though puss was !o t Howtver, the hounds soon puked up the tcent agar-, and pj=s was iclluwid istu Mr Mr '1 rust's fartr, but w.s eventually lost, Although during tha afternoon we enjoyeJ two exceptionally gcod runs, no kill* resulted. SECOND DAY,

Owing to the Huntsman being unable to visit our district as early aa usual, he kiudly consented to give us two days' hunting, so on Thursday, th» 10th, by kind invitation of Mr Ashwin, we met his place, and as his neighbours, without exception, gave the hounds a welcome a thoroughly good day's hunting was enjoyed. The first hure was four.d on Mr Ashwic's, and it made straight acrcss Mr Eber Barriball'n property, known as Flavell'p, crossing the road on to Mr C. J. West's farm, and here tbe followers were brought to a sudden stop, as a stiff post and rail fence with a barbwire on top of the posts confronted the crnwd. Quite suddenly the wellknown hunter "Patch" was seen in mid-air well ab?ve the obstacle, and he was allowed to go alone, others preferring a safer course. . It wa3 not long before many or the followers weie in hot pursuit again, enjoying one of thy best iuns jet Rnown iu these parts. Puss had indeed chosen the course that suited the followers. She journeyed thtough Mr Jas. Lowe's, seitr., on to Mr ben Lowe's, and away back trom whence she start-.d, but, finding the pack were iu hot pursuit, puss was forced onward through Mr J as. Lowe's, junr., and from there across the road on to Mr P. C. Parker's farm, where she was ljst for a time, but was eventually started again and crossed over Mr T. D. Keid's paddock, back into Mr Jas. Lowe's, junr., where a kill resulted. Among those at the kill were three visitors from Wanganui, who have bee.i enjoying a few day's hunting in Auckland, and they were heard to remark that this was the bsst run they have ever experienced. By kind invitation we now adjourned ti the residence of Mr and Mrs Ashwin, where afternoon tea had been provided fir all, and which was indeed highly appreciated, hunting havng a very appetising effect. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the Master. Mr K. T. Keid, and the Deputy-Master, Mr (i. H. Selby, Mr Jas. Dovell kindly consented tj act as Maßter, and took

charge for the clny in a very creditable manner. In a few w< 11 chosen remarks, he thanked our host and hostess for the kindly way in which all had been and called for cheers, which mat with a hearty r spouse. Ifce Huntsman, Mr Selby, ■ made a few remarks regarding hunting in Waiuku and mentioned that be hhd enjoyed many good runß with the Waiuku boys, and promiad that although we bad made rather a late start we would yet have as good bunting as usual this season. He then called fcr three hearty cheers for the farmers over whose property we ran and this call was responded to in no half hearted manner. As the hunters had now bad a fair rekt, it was decided to make a fresh start Some little time elapsed before a find was made. The Huntsman, on foot, wrrked the hounds through a young oat crop, and very soon a tine hare made away through Mr Bin Lowe's, on to Mr Nicholi's fsrm,' and was lost. During the run, which was fast, some fine jumping was witnessed. We then worked through Mr Nicholi's place, and on to Mr Bidwill'e, but, as the diy was far spent, it was decidad to call in the pack.
