OFF TO TRENTHAM.
Recruits Farewelled. Initiated by the local football cubs, a public farewell was given in the Masonic Hall, Pukekohe, on Tuesday evening, to seven residents of the town, viz.: Messrs J. Burr, S.-Chambers, K. Flood. G. Garainz, F. Marshall, T. Skivington and 0. Stayte, who having been enrolled for the war have ibis week departed for training at the Trentham Camp. Councillor J. Beattie presided and the company present numbered between 60 and 70.
A lengthy toast list was gone through, "The Army ard Navy" being proposed by Mr Wyatt and responded to by Mr McGongh; Mr J. Poilcck submitted "Kindred Sports," to which Messrs J. Reynolds (Gun Club), B. Foy (Rugby Union). S. Marshall (Association Football j and C. Koadley (Bowling Club) replied; Mr J. Kennelly proposed "Our Boys at the Front"; Mr C. Koadley proposed 'The Borough Ciuncil," Cr Beattie replying; 'The Farming Inc'ustry" was given by Mr F. Peik'ns atd Mr F. Graham responded; Mr J. Pollock proposed the "Town and Trade of Pukekohe," ard Mr O'Loughlen replied; the "Fire Brigade" was submitted by Mr Mch'ae, Messrs Woods and Clews responding. The health of "Our Guests" was vociferously honoured on tie proposition of the chairman, ard it was claimed that in sending out seven recruits in one batch Pukekohe was for [its size loyally responding to the call of the Motherland. As a little memento of the occasion each of the guests were asked to accept a Loewe pice and well-filled pouch of tobacco, for which appropriate thaoks were tendered by the recipients. A mudical programme was also carried out. a thoroughly enjoyable evening being spent. The secretarial arrangements were in the hands ot Mr J. Kennelly. whose capable management testified to his abilities as an organiser.
