County Council and Town Board. FINANCIAL ADJUSTMENTS. A deputation from the l'uakau Town Board, consisting of Mr K. Dynes Fulton (chairman) and Mr A. H. Tapper (clerk) waited on the Franklin County Council at tha tatter's meeting on Thursday last in respect of adjustments of finance between the two authorities ai the outcome of the creation of the Town Board. Mr Fulton claimed that the amount due to the Town Board in respect of rates co lected by the County Council wbs in the vicinity ot £IOO, and ba would be pleased to receive it on behalf of the Town Board at the Council's earliest convenience.
It was decided that the clerks of both bodies should no into the matter when the Valuation Koll for the Tuakau Town District was received, and the amount after being ascertained would be handed over as early as possible to the Town Board. In the matter of whether the Council or the Tuakau Town Board should collect the Hospital and Charitable Aid rates over the Tuakau district, it was agre«d that a special order be made giving the Town Board authority to collect the rate and to make a charge of tive per cent, as collection fees. Ihe Tuakau Town Board was also ' authorised to impound horses from the Tuakau Town District in the Pukekohe Pound.
Cr Wilcox suggested that the Town Board should agrse to refund to the Council half of the cost of the metalling of the road opposite the Creamery, the expenditure on which had been £BO less £lO contributed by the New Zealand Dairy Asocimion. He reminded Mr Fulton that he (Mr Fulton) as the then member for the riding was responsible for the expenditure, the Council understanding that the total outlay would not have exceeded £2O. Mr Fulton contended that the improvement effected to the road wa; for tha benefit ot the sup* pliers, who came from the County's district. Be would bring the sug« gestion before his Board but he would not be prepared to recommend that it shuuld be complied with; indeed he would rather pay the money himself than call on the Board's ratepayers to find it The chairman (Cr Flanagan) con* sidered that the request was only reasonable, as the road had been put into such a state of repair that no expenditure thereon would have to be defrayed by the Town Board for sume considerable time to come. The chairman also pointed out that in the adjustments with tha Mercer Town Board the Commissioner had ruled that the Town Board should be debited with all expenditure on roads in the Board's district far twelve months preceding the creation of the Board*
