Mayoral Election.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir,—la common with others who attended mr Mason's recent meeting respecting torough matters, I was exceedingly pleased with the high Btandard of his address. Mr Mason showed how borough matters could be discussed, deficiencies and muddling forcibly criticised and better methods affected, and yet he said nothing to cause tny offence. On the contrary, bis eagerness to avoid personalities, recriminations and uiieeemly wrangles was rather noteworthy. This is a distinct advance in the tore of our public life in Fukekohe. Although the meeting wa3 an extremely good one, yet the number of electors who ware not present must, of course, be considerably greater than the number of those who were able to attend. A newspaper report can give srch people at best a most inadequate idea of the address. It would be a very great pity if those unable to attend were to vote, thinking, as some do, that because Mr Mason had been silent when others were wrangling he is therefore unable to form and conceive excellent ideas with reference to borough affairs and to bring them clearly before the notice of electors.—l, am, etc., PROGRESSIVE.
[TO THE EDITOR.]
Sir,—Pukekobe residents ought to be very thankful to Mr H. G. R. Mason for his recent exposition of a very sound progressive policy of municipal improvement. It is not often that we have in Pukekohe such an addres?. It is a common occurrence to hear complaints regarding the management of our municipal affairs and enmpaints that good men do not offer themselves for candidature. At a presentation made to the retiring Mayor some considerable time ago many expressed the hope that that event would encourage other men to offer tbeir services. The people have now a chance of securing a Mayor who undoubtedly has both the enthusiasm and ability to handle our local affairs with efficiency and get the borough nut of the mess caused by the loan proposals of tbe retiring Mayor, fclt will be two years before we get a chance to reconsider our decision. We should nut miss this opportunity. I am, etc., UENRI H. WEST. April 22nd, 1915.
