DRURY.

A meeting of the Drury School Committee was held on Monday of last week the members present being Messrs Glasson (chairman), Fielding (secetary), Ffye and J. Rugg.— A letter was read from the secretary of the Education Board intimating that Miss Frances R. Bycroft had been attached to the Drury School as first year probationer.—The following letter was received from the head teacher, Mr J. D. McNaughton:—" Wednesday next is a public holiday—St. Patrick's Day. On that day and on Labour Day, in November; I have frequently in the past regretted not having spoken about taking a holiday. So many of the 'families have friends up from town and the children are kept from school to meet them. Others oa St. Patrick's Day go to Ngaruawahia regatta, while those that attend have the holiday unrest. These two days are the last and the first of the single-day summer holidays. I would therefore suggest that tee committee take them as two out of the three days which the Board's regulations provide for their granting" The committee approved ot the teacher's suggestion arid resolved to take the 17th as a holiday. The matter of closing the schoM next Labour Day will be a question for the new committee to decide.
