TUAKAU TOWN BOARD.
Monthly Meeting.
The usual monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday evening last, the following members being present, viz., Messrs D. Fulton (chairman), H. Craig, W. Glasgow, W. Strahan, H. B. Free and the clerk, Mr A. H. Tapper. A GOVERNMENT GRANT. Mr R, F. Bollard, M.P., forwarder a letter he had received from the Prime Minister (Mr Massey) in regard to the Board's application for a grant of £4O towards the initial expenses incurred in the formation cl the Tuakau town district. Mr Massey wrote that when the expenses were certified by the chairman of the Board and forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs the grar.t would be made and deducted later from subsidies payable to the Board, Mr Free proposed, atd Mr Craig seconded, that a list of the expenses (£46 18s lid) should be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs. - Carried. HALF HOLIDAY DATE. Ihe clerk reported that a communication bad been received from the Labour Department asking which day was most suitable for the statutory fcalf-holiday, and he had replied that Wednesday was generally favoured.—The clerk's action was confirmed. QUARRY SITE. Mr R. Bcyroft forwarded a plan of the proposed quarry site. Atter perusing: the plan Mr Free proposed that the Dlan be referred back to Mr Bycroft for the insertion of the area and scale. Mr Glasgow seconded the motion, which was agreed to.
DRAINAGE WOKKS.
It was decided to engage a man for a few days to attend to the work of laying down pipes, etc, at Pirret's drain, Madill'a corner, and at Buckland crossing, at the entrance to the saleyatds. NUXIOU3 WEEDS.
The clerk was instructed to write to the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, Auckland, to ask hiti to take action in connection with the noxious, weeds growing on Mr Whtlan's property, Dominion road. DOG TAX AND COLLARS. It was dectded to charge a fee of 2s 6d dog tax on all dogs, such fee to be paid by the 30th April. The clerk was instructed to make arrangements for samples and prices of dog collars, the Board having decided to- order 150. It was arranged to ask the local saddler to supply a sample and price and also to obtain a sample and ptica from Auckland. SUPPLY OF METAL.
The chairman was authorised to make arrangements for a supply of metal. He said that an offer had been made to bim to supply metal, broken and carted, at 9s per yard, and if arrangements could be made for a supply of the metal he was certain the Board woald b9 satisfied with it.—lt was decided, in the event of the metal being forthcoming, to attend to the repairs that are necessary on Dominion road. TARRING FOOTPATHS. Mr Fern asked if the Board would be prepared to pay half the cost of tarring and sanding the footpath around his shop. The chairman said the Boaid could net entertain the request unless the work was done according to the permanent levels. It was stated that the work could not be done to the permanent levels unless certain other work was carried out The chairman remarked that the Board would be wise to do their utmost to assist, by paying half cost, the formation of tcotpaths, FINANCE.
Accounts totalling £ls 6s 5d were passed for payment.
GEORGE STREET,
The Board's action in having arranged for the re-grading of George street from railway line to Liverpool street, at a special meeting held oa the 23rd February, was confirmed.
