The new post office at Bombay is to be officially opened by the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon W. F. Massey) at 11 o'clock next Tuesday morning.
Owing to pressure on our space various reports, ineluhug that of the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court held yesterday, are unavoidably held over until our issue of Tuesday next,
. In view of the forthcoming mayoral election a meeting of supporters cf Mi C. K. Lawrie is to be held o:i Tuesday evening next, in Mr F. E. Simpson's office, for the purpose of assisting Mr Lawrie's candidature for re-election as Mayor of Pukekohe.
In addition to ihe prizes awarded him in the poultry section at the Pukekohe Show, as reported in our last issue, Mr J. J, McKinnev should aUo have been credited with the championship for the beat bird (light breeds) in the Show. With 21 entries Mr McKinney secured no less than 22 awards.
The campaign instituted by the Franklin County Council for copiug with the noxious weed nuisance was udvauced another stage at the Council's meeting yesterday, when on the proposition of Cr Lyons a special order was made bringing gorse, ragwort, and fennel into the scope of noxious weeds to be dealt with iu the district, in addition to blackberry, sweet briar, and Canadian thistle. At the Premier Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday next " Sixty iTears a Queen," illustrated with brilliance and completeness iu Peerless AllBritish motion portraiture, the life and reign of " Victoria the Good," faithful wife, loving mother, aud uoble Empress aud Queen. Historic empire figures and memorable episodes and national events decorated in most impressive form, will be screened by the Lyceum management aud lectured by Mr Barrie Marschel, JNo extra charge will be made.
Entries for the annual Pukekawa Sports to bo held on Saturday of next week are coming in freely, and the Club's second annal elfort seems destined to be a great success. Arrangements have beeu made for launches to ply from Mercer aud Tuakau to Pukekawa on the day of the sports, and the services of the famous Kahauga Maun Baud have beeu requisitioned for tho da}'. There aro 20 items ou the programme, for which good prize money is offering. Mr J. Millar, Pukekawa, is tho new secretary. Particulars of the meeting aro advertised iu this issue.
At yesterday's mooting of the Franklin County Council, a, lettor was read from the Prime Miuistor ,Mr Massey} announcing receipt of tho Council's letter to him calliug attention to tho decision of the Stale Advances Board limiting loans in any one year to £2,000, both iu the case of County Councils and Koad Beard? Mr Massey said it certainly seemed Jo him au anomaly that tho Council was not able to borrow more money tuau a Koad k ßoard when the limit, was so small, ihe iiuustion, however, largely depended uppn the funds at tho disposal of the Ad\&uoos Board, aud the Minister of Finance was giving the matter earetul consideration with the view ol seeing whether it would be possible latter uu to increase the limit in the ease of County Councils.
