PUKEKOHE EAST.
The annual picnic in connection with the Pukekohe East bundayschooi was held in Mr T. Hamilton's bush on Saturday last. Although the threatening conditions of the weather were somewhat ditcouraging parents and children numbering about one hundred turned oat to celebrate the occasion. After partaking of a sumptuous lunch games were indulged in under shelter of the native trees until the rain cleared, when races for the children provided keen contest?, all eventually receiving a prize. After the youngsters had been attended to the single ladies wero cal ed upon to toe the line when Miss Cissie Burdus wasplared first, Miss Nellie Robinson second. The mairied ladies' race brought out seven eager contestants, first honours falling to Mrs W. H. Newcombe, Mrs W. Holmes second.

Some excitement was caused in the mile race for young men, which was run in good stvle, Arehio O'Neil first, Colin Eobiuson second. ■ The handicapping was in the capable hands of T. Hamilton and W. Eobiuson. while M. Ballard acted as judge. The tcholiirs were next called upon by the superintendent, Mrs Kobinson, to each recdive a book for good conduct and regular attendance. In the mo it time the copper had been set going, necessary to the providing of afternoon tea. After "grace" had been sung in the usual way each and all did justice to the good things provided by the ladies of the district.
Games were again indulged in till one after another fell out of line to attend to their home duties.
