Tht judge looked at the man in the dock, and then at the men in the box. "Gentlemen of the jury." he said. " 1 have walked over the pavements of London during the last forty years, and I've never found a gold watch and chain yet. Consider your verdict!" Queen Victoria had a distinct horror of travelling by train, and the strictest precautious to guard against accident had to l>e taken before she could be prevailed upon to proceed on a railway journey.
