STOCK SALES.
WESTFIELD SALES. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report :-On account of the New Year holidays we held our usual weekly Westfield fat stock market on Tuesday. The quantities of stock sold were considerably less than the average. The 297 fat cattle met with firm sale at advanced figures. Chojce ox sold to £2; prime, £1 18s to £1 19s; ordinary quality, £1 16s to £1 17s 6d; cows and heifers, £1 8s to £1 14s; steers ranged in price from £8 15s to £18; 16 prime bullocks from Mr H. E. Reed, Waerenga, averaged £ls 16s Id; 20 from Messrs R. and W. Gollan, of Fanmure, averaged £l4 17s; and 16 from the Waikato averaged £l4 13s 5.1; cows and heifers, £5 15s to £ll 7s 61 Fat and young calves sold at slightly better rates. Heavy suckers, £2 15s b £3 6s; medium suckers, £2 83 to £2 14s; lighter, £1 18s to £2 6s; light, 18s to £1 13s; small and fresh dropped, 3s to 14s, 48 sold. The 1124 fat sheep sold steadily at values which were a trifle firmer than last report. Best heavy prime wethers, £1 3s to £1 4s; medium to heavy wethera, 19a GJ to £1 2s 6d; light to medium, 16s 6d to 18s 6d; unfiiished, 14s 6d to 16s; best heavy prime ewes, 19a 6d to £1 2s; several pens of exceptionally heavy ewea sold at from £1 8s 9d to £1 lCs. averaging £1 9s sd; good ewes 16a 6 i to 18b fid; others, lis 6d to 15s 6d. Lambs came forward in large numbers, and although last week's extreme prices were not realised, values were very firm, exporters operating freely. Best heavy, 18s to 19b 6d; good, 16a fid to 17s 9d; lighter, 14s to 16a; small, 10s fid to 13s 6d, 851 sold. Pigs were penned short of requirements, and sold steadily throughout at improved rates. There were no choppers yarded, and were inquired tor. Baconers sold from £2 18s to £3 3s; large porkers, £2 5s to £2 12s; medium. £1 15s to £2 2s; light, £1 10s to £1 14s; weaners, 8s to 13a 6(1. 109 sold.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., reports:—At Westfield yards on Tuesday fat cattle came forward in less numbers tban usual, and sold at fully late quotations, best oxen selling to 39a Gd per 1001b., others 36s to 38s; cows and heifers, 32s to 355; steers sold at from £8 10s to £ls; cows and heifers, £5 to £9 15s. Veal calve 3 came forward in less numbers than usual, and showed no improvement in price. ; Heavy vealers sold at from £3 3s to £3 l&s; medium ditto, £2 to £3; lighter, 2Us to 38s; smaller and fresh dropped, 3s to 16s Sheep were, yarded in average numbers, and prices were firmer than late sales. Best wethers, £1 Is 9d to £1 3s 9d; others, 18s to 21s; heavy ewes, 18s tj 21s; others, 13s 6d to 18s; hoggets, 14a 6d to 18s 9d. Lambs were penned in lu'l numbers and sold easier thin last week's prices. Best quality sold at from 16s to 18s 9d; others, J3s 6d to 15a 9d; inferior fatted, 9s to 13s 3d.
