PUKEKOHE BOWLING CLUB
Last week Mr C. Clarke, the holder of the " Cock o' the Walk " badge, was twice called upon to defend possession of his trophy. First challenged by Mr Wright, Mr Clarke, by securing a draw (19 all), retained the badge, but in a subse quent match with Mr J. Hewson he was defeated bv 19 to 17 and Mr Hewson accordingly proudly wears, for the time being, the much coveted emblem of the Single*' championship. The Club has just inaugurated a new scheme of classification for the " Stars " competition, whereby players have been grouped and will play for the " Stars" in sides as selected instead of as in the old system teams being made up at random and competing accordingly. The first contest under the revised conditions was decided on Saturday, Messrs Grigor, Frost, Eames and Keith defeating Messrs Potter, Fitness, Lawrie and Barter 31—10. In friendly games played on Saturday, Messrs Speirs, Baker, Townson and D. Roulston drew with Messrs McLean, Mcßae, Perkins and Armstrong 19 all, and Messrs Jones, Penny, Hewson and Wright beat Messrs W. Adams, Clews, Hubbard and Blake, 20-19. ,
