AKA AKA DRAINAGE BOARD
The nroathly meeting of the above Board was held at Waiuku last Saturday; present: Messrs G. Hull (chairman), E. T. Bent, J. N. Massey and S. N. West. PLACE OF MEETING. The necretary of the Aba Aka Hall committee advised that his committee had unanimously decided to allow the Board free of charge the use of the hall for meeting?.— The clerk was instructed to write expressing ths Board's thanks to the committee for their generous action. WOKKS IN PROGRESS. Mr Bent reported having been over the Arroville and Mawhitiwhiti drains and found that very good work had been done by the men employed. On the latter drain the flood gates had got jammed.— The chairman suggested that Mr Bent should arrange to have the flood gate put right. THE WESTERN DRAIN. The chairman said Mr Henry had been to inspect the Western drain, and had advised him that the job was getting on well and that the men were doing fair work. Mr West said he thought the men were doing good work. The chairman pointed out that there was only a few days' more work necessary on the drain at present, and the Board member in charge had suggested reducing the number of men.
It was agreed to let three of the men finish the work. THE EASTERN DRAIN.
Mr Maasey said tbe Eastern drain was not quite finished yet. Id regard to the Eastern drain the chairman said he thought the Board had better approach the Government about the shovelling required in the drain. He understood a sum was to be set aside out of the uovernmtnt job further up to put right any damage done to tbe drain. Mr Bent said the engineer had stated that £SO would be available. It was decided to request the clerk to write to the Government on the matter, urging that tbe necessary work be carried nut, and requesting an early reply.
WEED CUTTING MACHINE. The machine for clearing weeds from the drains was under discussion, and it seemed that results had not been very satisfactory. On the chairman's suggestion it was agreed to give the machine a further trial.
GENERAL. The clerk was instructed to try and collect outstanding rates as soon as possible. Accounts for wages totalling £73 17s 4d were passed for payment.
